EnergyCAN
It is with regret that CAN has discontinued the EnergyCAN scheme from March 2022 onwards. The COVID lockdowns of 2020 badly affected the energy brokerage businesses and one of the results was that LSI Energy Ltd, the company that has handled our quotations and contracts since 2011, was taken over by Inspire Energy. CAN expected to continue EnergyCAN with Inspired Energy but in January 2021, CAN was advised that Inspired Energy were handing over all their small and medium contracts business to a company called EnergiSave – including the portfolio of contracts that LSI Energy had handled for EnergyCAN.
CAN entered into discussions with EnergiSave with view to continuing a similar arrangement with them. However, it has not been possible to conclude a deal, with EnergiSave, with the result that the CAN Board has decided to discontinue EnergyCAN.
Any existing active contracts under the scheme will not be affected by these changes and the contracts will run until the contract end dates specified.
EnergiSave is currently holding the contracts that were being handled by LSI Energy. When the contracts are coming up for renewal the contract holders may receive contact from EnergiSave with the offer to obtain quotations for them to find the best deal. It will be up to your Hall whether you accept this offer.
I hope that this message is understandable but please do not hesitate to contact Sarah (WNCBC Secretary) or Louise (CAN) if you have any queries.
* WNCBC has been exploring options to see whether it may be worth setting up a new in-house scheme as a potential alternative to the CAN scheme, but in the current financial climate, has been unable to find any alternative which would make any kind of financial sense for either WNCBC or its members. In addition, the energy companies themselves are unwilling to commit as things stand at the moment. However, once the markets and economy stabilise, it may be worth reviewing the situation and WNCBC will update you if there are any changes. *
